Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. अजातशत्रौ तु जिते निकृत्या दुःशासनो यत्परुषाण्यवोचत् ।
तानि प्रविष्टानि वृकोदराङ्गं दहन्ति मर्माग्निरिवेन्धनानि ॥ १७ ॥

ajātaśatrau tu jite nikṛtyā duḥśāsano yatparuṣāṇyavocat |
tāni praviṣṭāni vṛkodarāṅgaṃ dahanti marmāgnirivendhanāni || 17 ||
