Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. आश्चर्यभूतं भवतः श्रुतं नो वदतां वर ।
मुने भार्गव यद्वृत्तं युगादौ प्रभवाप्ययौ ॥ ४ ॥

āścaryabhūtaṃ bhavataḥ śrutaṃ no vadatāṃ vara |
mune bhārgava yadvṛttaṃ yugādau prabhavāpyayau || 4 ||
