Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. तपसा चिन्तयंश्चापि तं शिशुं नोपलक्षये ।
भूतं भव्यं भविष्यच्च जानन्नपि नराधिप ॥ ८५ ॥

tapasā cintayaṃścāpi taṃ śiśuṃ nopalakṣaye |
bhūtaṃ bhavyaṃ bhaviṣyacca jānannapi narādhipa || 85 ||
