Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. धर्मिष्ठाः परिहीयन्ते पापीयान्वर्धते जनः ।
धर्मस्य बलहानिः स्यादधर्मश्च बली तथा ॥ ४७ ॥

dharmiṣṭhāḥ parihīyante pāpīyānvardhate janaḥ |
dharmasya balahāniḥ syādadharmaśca balī tathā || 47 ||
