Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. इमामत्रोपमां चापि निबोध वदतां वर ।
मनुष्यलोके यच्छ्रेयः परं मन्ये युधिष्ठिर ॥ ३३ ॥

imāmatropamāṃ cāpi nibodha vadatāṃ vara |
manuṣyaloke yacchreyaḥ paraṃ manye yudhiṣṭhira || 33 ||
