Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. तत्रास्य स्वकृतं कर्म छायेवानुगतं सदा ।
फलत्यथ सुखार्हो वा दुःखार्हो वापि जायते ॥ २५ ॥

tatrāsya svakṛtaṃ karma chāyevānugataṃ sadā |
phalatyatha sukhārho vā duḥkhārho vāpi jāyate || 25 ||
