Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. यथान्यायं महातेजाः शौचं परममास्थितः ।
गिरिकूबरं पादपाङ्गं शुभवेणु त्रिवेणुकम् ।
पार्थिवं रथमास्थाय शोभमानो धनंजयः ॥ ४ ॥

yathānyāyaṃ mahātejāḥ śaucaṃ paramamāsthitaḥ |
girikūbaraṃ pādapāṅgaṃ śubhaveṇu triveṇukam |
