Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. ततोऽहं देवदेवाय रुद्राय प्रणतो रणे ।
स्वस्ति भूतेभ्य इत्युक्त्वा महास्त्रं समयोजयम् ।
यत्तद्रौद्रमिति ख्यातं सर्वामित्रविनाशनम् ॥ ३८ ॥
