Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. रवेस्तमिस्रागमनिर्गमांस्ते तथोदयं चास्तमयं च वीराः ।
समावृताः प्रेक्ष्य तमोनुदस्य गभस्तिजालैः प्रदिशो दिशश्च ॥ १० ॥

ravestamisrāgamanirgamāṃste tathodayaṃ cāstamayaṃ ca vīrāḥ |
samāvṛtāḥ prekṣya tamonudasya gabhastijālaiḥ pradiśo diśaśca || 10 ||
