Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. तमापतन्तं संप्रेक्ष्य शूलहस्तं जिघांसया ।
यवक्रीः सहसोत्थाय प्राद्रवद्येन वै सरः ॥ १५ ॥

tamāpatantaṃ saṃprekṣya śūlahastaṃ jighāṃsayā |
yavakrīḥ sahasotthāya prādravadyena vai saraḥ || 15 ||
