Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. न युक्तमिति तं प्राह भगवान्भार्गवस्तदा ।
सुतार्थं स्थापिता ह्यापस्तपसा चैव संभृताः ॥ १८ ॥

na yuktamiti taṃ prāha bhagavānbhārgavastadā |
sutārthaṃ sthāpitā hyāpastapasā caiva saṃbhṛtāḥ || 18 ||
