Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. ततः कृत्या समभवदृषेस्तस्य तपोबलात् ।
मदो नाम महावीर्यो बृहत्कायो महासुरः ।
शरीरं यस्य निर्देष्टुमशक्यं तु सुरासुरैः ॥ १९ ॥

tataḥ kṛtyā samabhavadṛṣestasya tapobalāt |
mado nāma mahāvīryo bṛhatkāyo mahāsuraḥ |
śarīraṃ yasya nirdeṣṭumaśakyaṃ tu surāsuraiḥ || 19 ||
