Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. This portion also contains the Bhagavad-Gita. Alternative titles: Mahābhārata (महाभारत).

द्रोणं च भीष्मं च महारथौ तौ सुतैर्वृतं चाप्यथ सोमदत्तम् ।
सर्वाणि सैन्यानि च वासुदेवः प्रधक्ष्यते सायकवह्निजालैः ॥ १५ ॥

droṇaṃ ca bhīṣmaṃ ca mahārathau tau sutairvṛtaṃ cāpyatha somadattam |
