Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. ग्रामांश्च घोषांश्च सुतं च दृष्ट्वा शान्तां च शान्तोऽस्य परः स कोपः ।
चकार तस्मै परमं प्रसादं विभाण्डको भूमिपतेर्नरेन्द्र ॥ २० ॥

grāmāṃśca ghoṣāṃśca sutaṃ ca dṛṣṭvā śāntāṃ ca śānto'sya paraḥ sa kopaḥ |
cakāra tasmai paramaṃ prasādaṃ vibhāṇḍako bhūmipaternarendra || 20 ||
