Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. This portion also contains the Bhagavad-Gita. Alternative titles: Mahābhārata (महाभारत).

संप्राप्य सत्कारमतीव तेभ्यः प्रोवाच कस्य प्रथिताः स्थ सौम्याः ।
ऊचुस्ततस्तेऽभ्युपगम्य सर्वे धनं तवेदं विहितं सुतस्य ॥ १७ ॥

saṃprāpya satkāramatīva tebhyaḥ provāca kasya prathitāḥ stha saumyāḥ |
ūcustataste'bhyupagamya sarve dhanaṃ tavedaṃ vihitaṃ sutasya || 17 ||
