Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. गङ्गायास्त्वपरं द्वीपं प्राप्य यः स्नाति भारत ।
त्रिरात्रोपोषितो राजन्सर्वकामानवाप्नुयात् ॥ ५ ॥
