Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. औजसस्य तु पूर्वेण कुरुतीर्थं कुरूद्वह ।
कुरुतीर्थे नरः स्नात्वा ब्रह्मचारी जितेन्द्रियः ।
सर्वपापविशुद्धात्मा कुरुलोकं प्रपद्यते ॥ १४४ ॥
