Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. This portion also contains the Bhagavad-Gita. Alternative titles: Mahābhārata (महाभारत).

नले चेहागते विप्र भूयो दास्यामि ते वसु ।
त्वया हि मे बहु कृतं यथा नान्यः करिष्यति ।
यद्भर्त्राहं समेष्यामि शीघ्रमेव द्विजोत्तम ॥ १८ ॥

nale cehāgate vipra bhūyo dāsyāmi te vasu |
tvayā hi me bahu kṛtaṃ yathā nānyaḥ kariṣyati |
yadbhartrāhaṃ sameṣyāmi śīghrameva dvijottama || 18 ||
