Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. सा ग्रस्यमाना ग्राहेण शोकेन च पराजिता ।
नात्मानं शोचति तथा यथा शोचति नैषधम् ॥ २१ ॥

sā grasyamānā grāheṇa śokena ca parājitā |
nātmānaṃ śocati tathā yathā śocati naiṣadham || 21 ||
