Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. This portion also contains the Bhagavad-Gita. Alternative titles: Mahābhārata (महाभारत).

अनूनमासीदसुरस्य कामैर्वैरोचनेः श्रीरपि चाक्षयासीत् ।
लब्ध्वा महीं ब्राह्मणसंप्रयोगात्तेष्वाचरन्दुष्टमतो व्यनश्यत् ॥ १३ ॥

anūnamāsīdasurasya kāmairvairocaneḥ śrīrapi cākṣayāsīt |
labdhvā mahīṃ brāhmaṇasaṃprayogātteṣvācaranduṣṭamato vyanaśyat || 13 ||
