Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. This portion also contains the Bhagavad-Gita. Alternative titles: Mahābhārata (महाभारत).

तच्छालतालाम्रमधूकनीप कदम्बसर्जार्जुनकर्णिकारैः ।
तपात्यये पुष्पधरैरुपेतं महावनं राष्ट्रपतिर्ददर्श ॥ १७ ॥

tacchālatālāmramadhūkanīpa kadambasarjārjunakarṇikāraiḥ |
tapātyaye puṣpadharairupetaṃ mahāvanaṃ rāṣṭrapatirdadarśa || 17 ||
