Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. This portion also contains the Bhagavad-Gita. Alternative titles: Mahābhārata (महाभारत).

ततोऽपश्यद्विदुरं तूर्णमारादभ्यायान्तं सत्यसंधः स राजा ।
अथाब्रवीद्भ्रातरं भीमसेनं किं नु क्षत्ता वक्ष्यति नः समेत्य ॥ ७ ॥

tato'paśyadviduraṃ tūrṇamārādabhyāyāntaṃ satyasaṃdhaḥ sa rājā |
athābravīdbhrātaraṃ bhīmasenaṃ kiṃ nu kṣattā vakṣyati naḥ sametya || 7 ||
