Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. This portion also contains the Bhagavad-Gita. Alternative titles: Mahābhārata (महाभारत).

नावि नौरिव संबद्धा यथान्धो वान्धमन्वियात् ।
तथाभूता हि कौरव्या भीष्म येषां त्वमग्रणीः ॥ ३ ॥

nāvi nauriva saṃbaddhā yathāndho vāndhamanviyāt |
tathābhūtā hi kauravyā bhīṣma yeṣāṃ tvamagraṇīḥ || 3 ||
