Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. This portion also contains the Bhagavad-Gita. Alternative titles: Mahābhārata (महाभारत).

यजस्वाभीप्सितं यज्ञं मयि श्रेयस्यवस्थिते ।
नियुङ्क्ष्व चापि मां कृत्ये सर्वं कर्तास्मि ते वचः ॥ २४ ॥

yajasvābhīpsitaṃ yajñaṃ mayi śreyasyavasthite |
niyuṅkṣva cāpi māṃ kṛtye sarvaṃ kartāsmi te vacaḥ || 24 ||
