Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. कृत्स्नं पञ्चनदं चैव तथैवापरपर्यटम् ।
उत्तरज्योतिकं चैव तथा वृन्दाटकं पुरम् ।
द्वारपालं च तरसा वशे चक्रे महाद्युतिः ॥ १० ॥

kṛtsnaṃ pañcanadaṃ caiva tathaivāparaparyaṭam |
uttarajyotikaṃ caiva tathā vṛndāṭakaṃ puram |
dvārapālaṃ ca tarasā vaśe cakre mahādyutiḥ || 10 ||
