Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. This portion also contains the Bhagavad-Gita. Alternative titles: Mahābhārata (महाभारत).

त्वमेवैकस्तपसे जातवेदो नान्यस्तप्ता विद्यते गोषु देव ।
ऋषीनस्मान्बालकान्पालयस्व परेणास्मान्प्रैहि वै हव्यवाह ॥ ११ ॥

tvamevaikastapase jātavedo nānyastaptā vidyate goṣu deva |
ṛṣīnasmānbālakānpālayasva pareṇāsmānpraihi vai havyavāha || 11 ||
