Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. शार्ङ्गका ऊचुः ।
न हृतं तं वयं विद्मः श्येनेनाखुं कथंचन ।
अन्येऽपि भवितारोऽत्र तेभ्योऽपि भयमेव नः ॥ २ ॥

na hṛtaṃ taṃ vayaṃ vidmaḥ śyenenākhuṃ kathaṃcana |
anye'pi bhavitāro'tra tebhyo'pi bhayameva naḥ || 2 ||
