Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. उषित्वा तत्र कौन्तेयः संवत्सरपराः क्षपाः ।
पुष्करेषु ततः शिष्टं कालं वर्तितवान्प्रभुः ।
पूर्णे तु द्वादशे वर्षे खाण्डवप्रस्थमाविशत् ॥ १३ ॥
