Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. यदा तु पर्याप्तमिहास्य क्रीडया तदा देवीं रुदतीं तामुवाच ।
आनीयतामेष यतोऽहमारान्मैनं दर्पः पुनरप्याविशेत ॥ १७ ॥
