Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. क्रुद्धं तु शक्रं प्रसमीक्ष्य देवो जहास शक्रं च शनैरुदैक्षत ।
संस्तम्भितोऽभूदथ देवराजस्तेनेक्षितः स्थाणुरिवावतस्थे ॥ १६ ॥
