Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. ततस्ते तं महात्मानं शुद्धात्मानमकल्मषम् ।
ददृशुः पाण्डवा राजन्पथि द्वैपायनं तदा ॥ २ ॥

tataste taṃ mahātmānaṃ śuddhātmānamakalmaṣam |
dadṛśuḥ pāṇḍavā rājanpathi dvaipāyanaṃ tadā || 2 ||
