Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. This portion also contains the Bhagavad-Gita. Alternative titles: Mahābhārata (महाभारत).

वीरांस्तु स हि तान्मेने प्राप्तराज्यान्स्वधर्मतः ।
बुद्धिवीर्यबलोत्साहैर्युक्तान्देवानिवापरान् ॥ ११ ॥

vīrāṃstu sa hi tānmene prāptarājyānsvadharmataḥ |
buddhivīryabalotsāhairyuktāndevānivāparān || 11 ||
