Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. मातृषष्ठास्तु ते तेन गुरुणा संगतास्तदा ।
नाथवन्तमिवात्मानं मेनिरे भरतर्षभाः ॥ ९ ॥

mātṛṣaṣṭhāstu te tena guruṇā saṃgatāstadā |
nāthavantamivātmānaṃ menire bharatarṣabhāḥ || 9 ||
