Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. दृष्ट्वा पाण्डुं च माद्रीं च शयानौ धरणीतले ।
कुन्ती शोकपरीताङ्गी विललाप सुदुःखिता ॥ १७ ॥

dṛṣṭvā pāṇḍuṃ ca mādrīṃ ca śayānau dharaṇītale |
kuntī śokaparītāṅgī vilalāpa suduḥkhitā || 17 ||
