Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. ततः सा पट्टमादाय कृत्वा बहुगुणं शुभा ।
बबन्ध नेत्रे स्वे राजन्पतिव्रतपरायणा ।
नात्यश्नीयां पतिमहमित्येवं कृतनिश्चया ॥ १३ ॥

tataḥ sā paṭṭamādāya kṛtvā bahuguṇaṃ śubhā |
babandha netre sve rājanpativrataparāyaṇā |
nātyaśnīyāṃ patimahamityevaṃ kṛtaniścayā || 13 ||
