Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. पुत्रो भूत्वा भावय भावितो मामस्माद्देहादुपनिष्क्रम्य तात ।
समीक्षेथा धर्मवतीमवेक्षां गुरोः सकाशात्प्राप्य विद्यां सविद्यः ॥ ४८ ॥

putro bhūtvā bhāvaya bhāvito māmasmāddehādupaniṣkramya tāta |
samīkṣethā dharmavatīmavekṣāṃ guroḥ sakāśātprāpya vidyāṃ savidyaḥ || 48 ||
