Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. पशव्यश्चैव पुण्यश्च सुस्थिरो धनधान्यवान् ।
स्वारक्ष्यश्चैव सौम्यश्च भोग्यैर्भूमिगुणैर्युतः ॥ ८ ॥
