Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. यश्चेदं श्रावयेच्छ्राद्धे ब्राह्मणान्पादमन्ततः ।
अक्षय्यं तस्य तच्छ्राद्धमुपतिष्ठेत्पितॄनपि ॥ २९ ॥

yaścedaṃ śrāvayecchrāddhe brāhmaṇānpādamantataḥ |
akṣayyaṃ tasya tacchrāddhamupatiṣṭhetpitṝnapi || 29 ||
