Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. इमे हि ते सूर्यहुताशवर्चसः समासते वृत्रहणः क्रतुं यथा ।
नैषां ज्ञानं विद्यते ज्ञातुमद्य दत्तं येभ्यो न प्रणश्येत्कथंचित् ॥ ८ ॥

ime hi te sūryahutāśavarcasaḥ samāsate vṛtrahaṇaḥ kratuṃ yathā |
naiṣāṃ jñānaṃ vidyate jñātumadya dattaṃ yebhyo na praṇaśyetkathaṃcit || 8 ||
