Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. आसां प्रजानां परिपालनेन स्वं क्षत्रधर्मं परिपालयामि ।
प्रब्रूहि वा किं क्रियतां द्विजेन्द्र शुश्रूषुरस्म्यद्य वचस्त्वदीयम् ॥ १८३ ॥

āsāṃ prajānāṃ paripālanena svaṃ kṣatradharmaṃ paripālayāmi |
prabrūhi vā kiṃ kriyatāṃ dvijendra śuśrūṣurasmyadya vacastvadīyam || 183 ||
