Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. स्वर्गपर्व ततो ज्ञेयं दिव्यं यत्तदमानुषम् ।
अध्यायाः पञ्च संख्याताः पर्वैतदभिसंख्यया ।
श्लोकानां द्वे शते चैव प्रसंख्याते तपोधनाः ॥ २३२ ॥
