Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. वृत्तानि रथयुद्धानि कीर्त्यन्ते यत्र भागशः ।
विनाशः कुरुमुख्यानां शल्यपर्वणि कीर्त्यते ॥ १७४ ॥

vṛttāni rathayuddhāni kīrtyante yatra bhāgaśaḥ |
vināśaḥ kurumukhyānāṃ śalyaparvaṇi kīrtyate || 174 ||
