Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. श्रुत्वाहं ता विचित्रार्था महाभारतसंश्रिताः ।
बहूनि संपरिक्रम्य तीर्थान्यायतनानि च ॥ १० ॥

śrutvāhaṃ tā vicitrārthā mahābhāratasaṃśritāḥ |
bahūni saṃparikramya tīrthānyāyatanāni ca || 10 ||
