Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. योधेषु चाप्याश्रममण्डलं तं मुक्त्वा निविष्टेषु विमुच्य पत्रम् ।
स्त्रीवृद्धबाले च सुसंनिविष्टे यथार्हतः कुशलं पर्यपृच्छत् ॥ १८ ॥
