Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. गान्धारीसहितो धीमानभिनन्द्य यथाविधि ।
कार्त्तिक्यां कारयित्वेष्टिं ब्राह्मणैर्वेदपारगैः ॥ २ ॥

gāndhārīsahito dhīmānabhinandya yathāvidhi |
kārttikyāṃ kārayitveṣṭiṃ brāhmaṇairvedapāragaiḥ || 2 ||
