Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. This portion also contains the Bhagavad-Gita. Alternative titles: Mahābhārata (महाभारत).

अग्निरुवाच ।
गन्धर्वराड्यात्वयं तत्र दूतो बिभेम्यहं वासव तत्र गन्तुम् ।
संरब्धो मामब्रवीत्तीक्ष्णरोषः संवर्तो वाक्यं चरितब्रह्मचर्यः ॥ २५ ॥
