Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. विदिताः क्षत्रधर्मास्ते येषां युद्धेन जीविका ।
यथा प्रवृत्तो नृपतिर्नाधिबन्धेन युज्यते ॥ १६ ॥

viditāḥ kṣatradharmāste yeṣāṃ yuddhena jīvikā |
yathā pravṛtto nṛpatirnādhibandhena yujyate || 16 ||
