Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. अधर्मा धर्मरूपेण तृणैः कूपा इवावृताः ।
ततस्तैर्भिद्यते वृत्तं शृणु चैव युधिष्ठिर ॥ ११ ॥

adharmā dharmarūpeṇa tṛṇaiḥ kūpā ivāvṛtāḥ |
tatastairbhidyate vṛttaṃ śṛṇu caiva yudhiṣṭhira || 11 ||
