Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. श्रीश्चैव रमते तेषु धारयन्ति श्रियं च ते ।
वृथा दारान्न गच्छन्ति वृथामांसं न भुञ्जते ॥ १० ॥

śrīścaiva ramate teṣu dhārayanti śriyaṃ ca te |
vṛthā dārānna gacchanti vṛthāmāṃsaṃ na bhuñjate || 10 ||
