Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. पक्षे पक्षे गते यस्तु भक्तमश्नाति भारत ।
गवाढ्यो बहुपुत्रश्च दीर्घायुश्च स जायते ॥ ३१ ॥

gavāḍhyo bahuputraśca dīrghāyuśca sa jāyate || 31 ||
